Prof. Isabel Abreu has a vast experience in Immunology both in research and in academic fields. Prof. Abreu was trained in international academic institutions in the UK, Luxembourg, Denmark and USA. She developed both diagnostic and research protocols during her stay as Head of the Research Laboratory for Autoimmune Diseases at Nova Medical School, which was the Portuguese national reference laboratory for Autoantibodies detection.
During her scientific career, she has published many peer review articles, chapters in books. Also during her scientific & academic career she has been very active organizing and participating in national and international autoimmunity congresses and meetings. Also organizing educational courses on Autoimmunity and managing laboratory national quality-control evaluations.
Prof. Abreu is a member of the Portuguese Society of Immunology (SPI), the Group d’Études d’Autoimmunité (GEAI) and the New York Academy of Sciences.
Her research interests are in understanding the immune - pathogenesis of a variety of immune system related disorders including autoimmune diseases and the development of novel immune related laboratory tests.
At present, Prof. Abreu collaborates with several institutions as an advisor in the field of Autoimmunity, and continues her activities in the organization of IF training courses.
